| 描述 | Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by Bacillus anthracis. The bacterium’s pathogenicity results when a tripartite protein toxin is secreted into a host system causing tissue swelling and apoptosis. This toxin is a mixture of three protein components: protective antigen (PA), edema factor (EF), and lethal factor (LF). EF is a calmodulin and Ca2+-dependent adenylyl cyclase that catalyzes the conversion of cytosolic adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). This assay uses the natural capacity of EF to convert ATP into cAMP. Standards or samples containing EF are incubated with calmodulin and ATP, which is converted to cAMP.
