描述 | The ω-3 fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; Item No. 90110) is enriched in the lipid stores of fish that feed on marine algae and phytoplankton and in humans with high fish diets. EPA is associated with a reduction in the incidence of atherosclerosis and other inflammatory diseases, although there is no established cause or mechanism for this activity.1 Resolvin E1 (RvE1) is a trihydroxy EPA metabolite that has been identified in mouse inflammatory exudates and in human plasma when subjects are treated with both aspirin and supplemental EPA.2,3,4 RvE1 has been postulated to be an anti-inflammatory EPA metabolite5 and has been shown to promote inflammatory resolution in numerous disease models, including experimental colitis, asthma, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and HSV-1-induced stromal keratitis.6,7,8,9,10,11,12 Analytical and biological comparisons of synthetic RvE1 with endogenously derived RvE1 have confirmed its identity as matching the natural product.13 |
