| 描述 | Carbonic anhydrases are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide to form bicarbonate ion plus a proton. In the eye, they are involved in aqueous humor secretion and have been linked to increased intraocular pressure (IOP), a symptom of glaucoma. Brinzolamide is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrases (IC50s = 3.2 and 45.3 nM for CAII and CAIV, respectively) that lowers intraocular pressure by locally inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes and suppressing aqueous humor secretion.1,2 Animal studies have found that one week of twice-daily topical ocular treatment with 2% brinzolamide significantly reduced IOP and enhanced optic nerve head blood flow.3 |
