- background:
Phospholipase acting on various phospholipids including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine and lysophospholipids. May have a role in the defense against invading microorganisms and in the generation of lipid mediators of inflammation.
Function:
In view of the small size of the putative binding pocket, it has been proposed that it may act as an amidase or a peptidase (By similarity). Exhibits a weak phospholipase activity, acting on various phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine and lysophospholipids.
Subunit:
May form a homodimer, each monomer is composed of a chain A and a chain B.
Subcellular Location:
Cytoplasmic granule. Secreted.
Tissue Specificity:
Expressed in neutrophils and monocytes.
Post-translational modifications:
Proteolytic processing leading to a 22 kDa N-terminal and a 42 kDa C-terminal fragment appears necessary for activity, which seems to derive from the 42 kDa chain.
Similarity:
Belongs to the phospholipase B-like family.
